A Vietnam Beach Wedding for 180: Notes from the Sand

Linh and Marcus met in Singapore and got engaged in Hanoi, so choosing Vietnam for the wedding itself was never really a question — the question was how to bring 180 guests from Toronto, London, and Ho Chi Minh City to the same stretch of coastline without anyone feeling like they'd arrived for a logistics exercise.

We started nine months out with the part no one photographs: hotel room blocks across two adjoining properties, a shuttle schedule timed to sunset, and a WhatsApp concierge line so grandparents didn't have to navigate anything alone. By the time guests landed, the only instruction they needed was a laminated card and a time.

The ceremony itself sat directly on the sand at low tide, a single long altar of white orchid and frangipani facing the water. We built in a forty-minute buffer before the processional specifically so the light could do what we couldn't control — and it did.

What we're proudest of isn't the arch or the tablescape, though both held up beautifully against a coastal wind we'd modeled for weeks in advance. It's that Linh's grandmother, who doesn't fly, made the trip and said afterward that she'd never felt so unhurried at a family event. That's the actual brief, every time.
